Lying man is arrested

KENSINGTON B – Randburg police have arrested a man who was found to be lying about being kidnapped and robbed.

Randburg police are warning residents against opening false dockets at their station after a suspect was recently charged and arrested.

Spokesperson for Randburg Police Station in Kensington B, Captain Makgowanyana Maja explained that the suspect will appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on charges of perjury.

“On 14 October at around 1pm the victim, who is now a suspect, came into the police station to register a case of kidnapping and armed robbery. He alleged that he was driving on the corner of Surrey and Hill streets when he was approached by a suspect driving a black Golf,” he explained.

He added that, according to the suspect, the alleged kidnappers stopped in front of him, and one man got out of the vehicle and pointed a firearm at him, forcing him into their vehicle and driving off with him.

Maja pointed out that when the suspect came and opened a case he had alleged that he was robbed of his bank card, cellphone and even further alleged that the perpetrators forced him to give them his pin number which he said they used withdrew about R4 000.

“After a thorough analysis by the investigating officer, he established that the victim fabricated the kidnapping and robbery and this led to his subsequent arrest,” Maja concluded.
