Walk for freedom – be there!
RANDPARK RIDGE – Walkers are encouraged to wear black with black tape covering their mouths to represent slaves who have no voice, at the #WalkForFreedom on 15 October.
The global anti-human trafficking organisation, A21, will host its #WalkForFreedom on 15 October, with the aim to shine a spotlight on the 27 million men, women, and children all around the world who are still trapped in slavery today.
The global fundraising and awareness event saw 200 walks in 28 participating countries last year, and this year aims to do even better in its third occasion.
Rhema Bible Church North, in Randpark Ridge, will host the 5km walk in Joburg this year.
“One step at a time. One dollar at a time. One life at a time. We will abolish modern-day slavery,” said Christine Caine, A21 founder.
Participants will walk in a single-file, dressed in black, with black tape covering their mouths to represent the 27 million slaves who have no voice. As the line moves through the area, information about human trafficking will be distributed to onlookers.
The check-in time for the walk is at 8.15am, and the walk will begin at 8.30am. Participants are encouraged to wear all black and if possible, the Walk For Freedom T-shirt if previously purchased.
