Tau appointed Salga chairperson

JOBURG - The ANC's Joburg Region chairperson will now head the South African Local Government Association.

The City of Johannesburg’s previous administration mayor, Parks Tau, has been appointed the chairperson of the South African Local Government Association (Salga).

Salga advises and supports policy analysis, research and monitoring, knowledge exchange and provides support to local government.

“The appointment comes shortly after he was recently appointed to the Advisory Board of the World Resources Institute (WRI) as it establishes itself on the African continent,” African National Congress Joburg Region spokesperson, Jolidee Matongo, said.

Tau, since losing the City’s mayoral spot for a second term to the Democratic Alliance’s (DA) Herman Mashaba, is the ANC Joburg Region chairperson.

Tau has also been urged to stand for the presidency of the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) body. The body represents and defends the interests of local governments on the world stage.

“The ANC Greater Joburg Region wishes comrade Tau the best in his new roles and we have confidence in his abilities to take South African cities and the continent to another level of development and prosperity on the global stage,” Matongo said.
