Paintnite at Dimis for #getcaylumtoboston

CRESTA – #getcaylumtoboston by attending Paintnite at Dimis.

CRESTA – Help get Caylum Willemse to Boston in the United States of America for a life-saving operation.

Caylum was born on 12 January 2016 in Johannesburg. He was diagnosed with tracheoesophageal fistula) and oesophagal atresia by Netcare’s Dr Charles Caraphinha.

This means he has problems with his oesophagus and trachea (the windpipe). He was later diagnosed with tracheobronchomalacia, a rare condition where the trachea cartilage is soft and therefore Caylum is not a candidate for a tracheotomy.

He had his first surgery at only two days old. He has gone for an aortopexy (a surgical procedure in which the aortic arch is attached to the sternum). It is done to treat severe tracheomalacia or tracheal compression (a condition characterised by flaccidity of the tracheal support cartilage which leads to tracheal collapse especially when increased airflow is demanded).

Caylum still has recurring episodes where he stops breathing and has spent most of his short life in hospital. He has been in ICU since 9 May this year and his current preventative treatment is not sustainable.

The operation he needs has been pioneered at the Boston Children’s Hospital by Dr Rusty Jennings and thus this is the best option to give the gift of life to Caylum. You can help to give the gift of life and save this little angel (#getcaylumtoboston).

Among many other fundraising initiatives, Rose Ribeiro will be hosting a Paintnite at Dimis on 3 November at Cresta Shopping Centre. “So far I have 36 people who have committed to buying tickets [and] 110 tickets, max, will be sold,” added Ribeiro. Paintnite South Africa will run the event at cost and all proceeds thereafter will go to the Caylum Foundation.

Merchandise and other items will be on sale for Caylum on the night. Paintnite is an amazingly fun night out; the price of the ticket includes your canvas, paint and an artist to guide you through the night. Caylum’s parents have chosen the picture that attendees will be painting on the night.
