Cresta water gush still under repairs

CRESTA – Joburg Water has yet to repair the broken pipe that caused massive floods.

Residents can expect to wait a little longer to see the burst pipe that caused floods near Republic Road and Judges Avenue fixed.

Roads were flooded, vehicles were towed away and walls hammered with fresh water when the pipe burst yesterday (27 September).

Johannesburg Water reported on their Twitter page six hours ago that their engineers had began excavating the site.

One hour ago the technicians dug a 10 metre hole. They explained that water was still coming out of the area and repairs will start once the water has stopped leaking.

Joburg Water manager marketing and communications, Tidimalo M Chuene said, “The damaged pipe is a main to the Randburg Reservoir. It is more than 6m deep.” She assured that they will update residents on the developments and that technicians are working on site and will only know the extent of the damage once they have reached the pipe.
