Golden Harvest park run and Mother of Peace run together

NORTH GATE - Mother of Peace collected over twenty bags of donations at the Golden Harvest park run.

Mother of Peace joined hands with Golden Harvest parkrun in North Gate to encourage runners to help them with their fundraising efforts.

Mother of Peace is a foster home for children in North Riding. They currently provide a home to 39 children with the help of financial contributions from the public. They offer abandoned and orphaned children an opportunity to live within a structured family environment, to be cared for, nurtured and loved.

Children are fostered by full-time and committed volunteers who dedicate their lives to looking after the children; they also take care of HIV-positive and disabled children of all ages.

Khumo Kekana, who sits on the main committee of Mother of Peace said they had asked for non-perishable donations such as clothes, shoes, tinned food and anything else that the runners wanted to bring that would help them. “It’s been such a success as we have collected over a full bakkie of donations and we are very happy with this outcome,” she said.

She further explained that this was the first time they had joined hands with Golden Harvest park run, and due to the success they would be planning the fundraiser again. She added that they had collected over 20 bags filled with stationery, cleaning agents, clothes and other non-perishable items.

The park run takes place every Saturday and all runners are welcome.
