Shout foundation to bring a #RealDifference through burgers
DAINFERN – This cause involves a mission at the heart of the SHOUT Foundation which is to build libraries where they are needed most in communities.
A media launch recently took place at Dainfern Square Steers where the Shout burger combo was revealed with the aim of making a #RealDifference in children’s lives.
This was thanks to a partnership between the well-known burger restaurant Steers, in partnership with the Shout Foundation.
The partnership is a bold challenge to sell a million Shout burgers.
Shout for a Safer South Africa was founded in 2007 by musicians Daniel ‘Danny K’ Koppel and Kabelo Mabalane, following the murder of Lucky Dube, as a registered non-profit organisation and BEE certified charity.
“About a year ago, Steers approached the Shout Foundation and we dreamed up the idea of creating a project together. Steers thought about it and they said if we developed a burger, they will kindly give us the proceeds raised to fund our library project,” co-founder of the foundation, Danny K said.
The foundation has established itself as one of the country’s most recognisable and credible movements against crime and violence.
The foundation has now focused its efforts on combatting the high levels of illiteracy in the country. “The reason behind the partnership is so that we are able to build libraries and schools in areas that really needed help in literacy and numeracy, especially for children who were not doing well in school.”
For Danny K, Lucky Dube’s untimely death was the last straw in the unrelenting effects and pressures of the crime epidemic in the country. He joined forces with Kabelo to produce a remake of the 1984 Tears for Fears hit, Shout spreading a strong anti-crime message with the help of a host of local musicians and celebrities.
The recent media launch was hosted by TV personality Ntando Duma with celebrity attendance by Danny K and Mabelane; TV personalities such as Keitumetse ‘K Naomi’ Noinyane, Siyabonga Ngwekazi, Nkuli Tshirumbula; hip-hop rappers Fifi Cooper and Nadia Nakai who all flexed their philanthropic muscles.
“A portion of every Shout Burger combo purchase will be set aside to aid in this important and sustainable community-building initiative,” co-founder, Mabelane said.
“Increasing literacy will empower children with the tools they need to learn and succeed. This will enable them to become economic players and active citizens who contribute to the development and growth of the country.”
Shout burgers are available across all Steers outlets nationwide.
