Petrol to go down by 18c a litre today

JOBURG – Relief for motorists as fuel prices are going down tomorrow.

 

Motorists will get some relief when filling up their vehicles.

The Department of Energy has confirmed that both petrol grades, 95 and 93 will go down by 18c per litre in retail price. The wholesale price of diesel 0.05per cent sulphur will go down by 48c per litre and diesel 0.005per cent sulphur will decrease with 49c per litre. The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin will decrease by 47c per litre, while the maximum retail price of LP gas will decrease by 9c per kilogramme.

According to a statement released by the department, economic factors affecting the unit over/under-recoveries for the period between 29 July and 1 September include the average international product price of the petrol increase, while diesel and illuminating paraffin decreased during the period under review.

The rand strengthened against the US dollar, on average, when compared to the previous period. The average rand/US dollar exchange rate for the period 29 July 2016 to 1 September was 13.8016 compared to 14.4407 during the previous period.

The strengthening of the rand against the US dollar decreased the contribution to the Basic Fuels Price on petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin by 23.58c per litre, 22.79c per litre and 22.86c per litre respectively.
