BREAKING: Mkhwebane to be Public Protector

Parliament chose the new Public Protector in an overwhelming vote.

JOBURG – Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane has officially been approved as the new Public Protector after a vote in Parliament earlier today, 7 September.

The vote saw Mkhwebane receive 263 votes, 79 opposing votes and one abstention. Her name will now be submitted for President Jacob Zuma’s approval.

Committee chairperson, Makhosi Khosa, was reported as having said that it was a pleasure to recommend Mkhwebane to the President for the role and commended her character. However, the DA opposed Mkhwebane’s nomination.

DA member of Parliament, Glynnis Breytenbach was reported to have said that Mkwebane was not the best candidate as she has little to no experience for the position.
