Northwold woman held at gunpoint

NORTHWOLD – Two men who robbed a Northwold resident, quickly disappear into the adjacent Golden Harvest Park.

A woman was held at gunpoint and robbed close to her home adjacent to Golden Harvest Park, in the afternoon of 29 August.

*Nicky walked toward her complex’s main entrance at around 5.30pm when she was approached by two men who held a gun to the side of her stomach and demanded she hand over her cellphone.

“As they stepped towards me, I screamed. The children playing in the complex heard me and ran toward the gate,” she said. Nicky remembered praying that they wouldn’t search her because her cellphone was in her pocket. “They took my handbag, grocery bags and a new decoder I had bought.”

She said the men quickly ran off towards Golden Harvest Park and disappeared in the shrubbery.

When she went to the police to open a case, Nicky said she was given an affidavit to apply for a new passport at her home country’s consulate.

The following day, urged by fellow residents, Nicky recovered some of her belongings, including her passport, in the park. “I saw a hole where they threw the bags,” she said. She has since not returned to the police station to open a case.

In May this year, it was reported that, in most cases, a police case number, regarding incidents in the park, was not available for various reasons. Honeydew Police Station spokesperson, Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs, previously said that a lot of the incidents that allegedly took place within the Golden Harvest Park, do not get reported to the police.

She said it poses a problem due to the fact that police patrols and presence cannot be regulated if they are not aware of a crime spike in the park.

As soon as comment is received from the police on the recent incidents, the Randburg Sun will inform its readers.

*Nicky is not the victim’s real name. Her identity has been withheld in light of her trauma and fear.
