Man lies to police about hijacking

NORTH RIDING – Police say a man lied to them about a hijacking incident.

Police have confirmed that a complaint about a hijacking and robbery incident in North Riding, turned out to be false.

Douglasdale Police Station commander Brigadier Lettie Hugo said that a man came to the station and claimed that unknown criminals took his vehicle on the corner of Malibongwe Drive and Witkoppen Road and dumped him on the N1 Highway last night (3 September).

The man alleged that the criminals then left with his girlfriend in the vehicle. But when the police investigated the incident, they found that this did not happen at all.

“He said he was thrown out of the car but we found out that the complaint was false,” Hugo said. “We did not arrest him for perjury as yet, because he did not give us a formal statement.”

She concluded that the police would investigate the matter no further.
