CPF meeting widely attended

HONEYDEW – CPF meeting makes residents aware of the various issues in the Sector 2 area.

The general Honeydew CPF sector 2 meeting was well attended on 25 August at the Honeydew Police Station.

Honeydew CPF chairperson, John Baisley, Honeydew CPF public relations officer, Jon Rosenberg, officers from various security companies in the sector, JMPD officers for wards 89 and 126 as well as members from the relevant resident’s associations attended the meeting. New Ward 89 Councillor, Amelia Bester and Ward 126 Councillor David Brand attended as well.

Committee member from the RiverWel Resident’s Association, Neville Burnett invited a member from this resident’s association to explain the process of the small claims court and to encourage people to make use of it. Lionel Buck explained people’s rights and said that children under 18 can also claim if they are accompanied by a legal guardian.

He added that you can claim any amount from R10 to R10 000 for example if someone caused malicious damage to your private property.

Sector 2 manager from the Honeydew Police Station, Sergeant Nicolas Makhura talked about the increases and decreases of crime in the area. He talked about the growing problem of motor vehicle theft and theft out of motor vehicles in the Weltevreden Park area and said that both these have decreased. He once again urged people to be on the lookout for signal jammers.

Makhura explained that assault went up substantially. Residential robberies also went up and according to Makhura residents need to be cautious and know that these type of crimes can lead to other crimes.

The next public CPF meeting will be on 8 September at 18.30pm.
