BREAKING: ANC councillor sworn in today passes away during Mayoral election

Councillors vote concurrently for positions of a mayor and chief whip.

An ANC councillor who was sworn in today passed away after falling ill during the election proceedings of the new mayor of Johannesburg this evening.

Councillor Jeffrey Makhubo told the council that the councillor who was ill, had passed away. Her name has been withheld until her family has been notified of her death.

He said the councillor was part of the ANC since in the 1980s. “We want to request an adjournment if that is possible,” he said.
