History was made today when Herman Mashaba of the DA was voted as Mayor of Johannesburg.
Council voted today, on 22 August, for the mayor they wanted to see represent The City of Gold.
In December 2015, Mashaba said, “It is about time that all of us take responsibility, especially the privileged South Africans, instead of watching our country collapsing.”
Mashaba, Founder of Black Like Me, was voted in with 144 votes, against 125 for ANC candidate, Mpho Parks Tau.
Vasco Da Gama of the Democratic Alliance was voted in as Council Speaker. Here is what Twitter had to say:
