Curro Aurora pupils excel in competitions

SUNDOWNER – Golf players and artistic gymnasts excel in various tournaments.

Muhammad Khaalid-Mia, a matric student at Curro Aurora, recently competed at the Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Regional Competition.

He was the overall winner and won three gold, two silver and one bronze medal for the individual apparatus disciplines. He also competed in the Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Provincial Competition.

He was placed second overall and won two gold and two silver medals in four of the six apparatus disciplines.

Khaalid-Mia competed in the South African Nationals in the all-round final where the gymnasts compete on all six apparatus. He also competed in the individual apparatus finals, achieving a second and a third place. He won silver in the floor exercise and was placed joint first on the high bar.

All these tremendous achievements mean that Muhammad Khaalid is the second-ranked men’s artistic gymnast in the country.

Meanwhile, the school golfers participated in the South African High School Championship at East London Country Club this month.

“About 23 schools from all over the country qualified from their provincial union’s leagues or tournament. The team finished third and Kieron van Wyk was placed third in the individual competition,” said the school marketing officer, Matona Sakupwanya.

De Villiers Graaff High School from the Western Cape took the win and was followed by St Dunstan’s College from Ekurhuleni.
