Polo theft foiled by security guard

RUITERHOF – Two suspects arrested after foiled motor vehicle robbery.

At 2am, today (17 August), an attempted motor vehicle theft was foiled by quick-thinking reaction officers from Ghost Squad.

The La Chandon complex on Percy Road, corner of Silver Pine Avenue in Ruiterhof was almost the scene of yet another VW Polo theft.

Linden Police spokesperson, Captain Walter Spencer, explained that, “The reaction officer from Ghost Squad Tactical noticed suspicious people inside the complex and immediately alerted the control room.”

The suspects were trying to steal a white VW Polo.

Ghost Squad Tactical CEO Allan Stott said, “We have been looking for a group of suspects who have been stealing Polos in various areas from Fontainebleau to Ferndale.”

When the team received the alarm, officers were dispatched and managed to capture two of the three suspects.

The suspects gained entry into the property by jumping over a wall of a house that did not have an electric fence. “They managed to use a ladder that was left in the garden to climb over the complex’s electric fence,” explained Stott.

According to Stott, the suspects tried to escape by jumping over the wall. The Polo’s ignition was damaged during the robbery attempt.”They are wanted at various police stations in the area and have the same modus operandi and we have been looking for them for over a year now,” said Stott.

The two entities are still looking for the third suspect as well as firearms that they believe were carried by the suspects. “It is a good, strong system like this, with quick-thinking by security guards, alarms and alert residents, that help prevent these things from happening,” said Spencer.
