Another firearm removed from the street

KENSINGTON B - A suspect will appear in the Randburg Magistrates court after being found in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

One more gun was removed from the streets, thanks to diligent and visible policing, after a suspect was arrested in Kensington B. The 47-year-old suspect will appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm, with ammunition and suspected stolen property.

Spokesperson, for the Randburg Police Station, Constable Lekgora Bopape, said the arrest happened while two patrolling police officers spotted a suspicious vehicle. “Upon searching the vehicle the two police officers discovered an unlicensed firearm along with Kruger coins to the value of R760 000. The suspect was arrested and taken to the station where he was charged,” Const Bopape said.

The constable pointed out that the unlicensed firearm would be sent to their ballistic experts who would determine whether the firearm was connected to any crimes. “If the firearm was used in other crimes, more charges will be added to the suspect’s charge sheet.

Bopape praised the officers for practising diligence while on duty and added that it was the main mandate of the South African Police Services (Saps) to serve residents, while curbing the scourge of crime.

The Randburg Police Station Commander, Brigadier Mitchelle Jones, congratulated the police members for a job well done and further praised their efforts in tackling crime head-on.
