WATCH: Mr and Miss Rand Park 2016 crowned

RANDPARK RIDGE – Mr and Miss Rand Park High have been officially crowned after a colourful evening that took patrons around the world.

R31 000 was raised for the matric dance at a glittering ceremony, where Mr and Miss Rand Park High were crowned in a packed school hall. The event on 13 August was attended by pupils and parents alike and the theme for this year’s pageant was Around the World where pupils chose a country to represent.

The winners qualified for a month-long contract from Figures Models plus the special prize winners: Mr and Miss Entrepreneur, Photogenic and Personality.

Competition between the contestants was very high as each one showcased their different countries in a truly unique style. The judges sure had their work cut out for them.

Sitting in the judges panel was Miss Heritage Gauteng, Sherianne Pillay; co-owner of Five6seven8 Dance Studio,  Kraig van Rooyen; professional athlete, Chi Ndyamba and Merlene Spies from Figures Models Rand Park Ridge.

 

 

Winners of the pageant were announced as:

  • Mr Rand Park – Aidan Wise
  •  Miss Rand Park – Mwila Masongo
  •  1st Prince – Jesse Schulman
  •  1st Princess – Emma Wright
  •  2nd Prince – Brandon Harris
  •  2nd Princess – Cailla Bester
  • Miss Entrepreneur – Chelsea Bailes
  • Mr Photogenic – Aidan Wise
  •  Miss Photogenic – Emma Wright
  • Mr Personality – Aidan Wise
  •  Miss Personality – Mwila Masongo

Principal of the school, Alan Wilke, said the annual pageant began around the year 2000 and that the 38 contestants who entered were very courageous. “The pageant helps the contestants with their confidence levels and it also enables them to challenge themselves,” he said. Wilke pointed out that the pageant was held to raise funds for the matric dance, which will be held later in the year.

Both the winners, Aidan Wise and Mwila Masongo, said they did not expect to win but they were very excited at the prospect of having taken the coveted title. “Although I do aspire to be a model one day, there was so much competition; I was really surprised,” Masongo said.

“This is so overwhelming I really did not expect to win at all; it’s amazing,” Wise added.
