Cable thieves caught in the act

RANDBURG – Police arrest five suspects who were stealing electric cables close to Lion Park.

Five suspects were caught red-handed while they were stealing cables close to the Lion Park, during the early hours of the morning, on the 16 August.

Douglasdale police, with the assistance of the Diepsloot police, caught the suspects while they were trying to cut the cable. They were subsequently arrested. Captain Fritz Kriel from Douglasdale police said the suspects were charged with copper cable theft. It is not clear at this stage if the suspects were stealing traffic-light cables. Over the past five months, several traffic lights on Malibongwe Drive on the way to Lanseria airport had been out of order due to the cable theft.

The damaged traffic lights have been an inconvenience to motorists, especially at the intersection of Malibongwe Drive and the R114.
