Water outage to affect greater Randburg tomorrow

Water tankers will be placed at the following points in the affected Langlaagte and Randburg depot areas:

Various areas in Randburg will be affected by an unplanned water outage from tomorrow (11 August) night till early Friday morning (12 August), Johannesburg Water (JW) warned.

Residents in Linden, Pine Park, Blairgowrie, Windsor, Robin Hills, Windsor Glen, Rand Park (Ext. 4,5,6), Fontainebleau, Ruiterhof, Moret, Kelland, Malanshof, Bryanston Ext.5, Bryanston Ext.3, Beverly Gardens, Ferndale, Strijdom Park, O’ Summit, Vandia Grove, Bordeaux, Oeder Park, Robindale, Jacanlee, Cresta (Ext.1,3,4,5), Darrenwood, Aldara Park, President Ridge, Victory Park, Kensington B and Bryanbrink will be affected.

According to Tim Truluck, ward 117 councillor, a water chamber burst on the corner of Viscount and Republic Road in Windsor. JW confirmed this and said water restoration can be expected from 6am on 12 August.

However, Truluck said in his experience, “Things rarely go according to plan” and that residents should expect to be without water for longer. “Note also that the lower lying areas always get their water first and the higher ones last. So if you live on top of the Linden Ridge, you will get your water much later than those living down in the Cresta Valley,” he said.

Here are a few tips on saving water:

Level-2 water restrictions, which means no municipal water should be used to irrigate gardens at certain times, to fill swimming pools or wash cars, are still in place and should be adhered to.

But JW spokesperson Eleanor Mavimbela said due to the colder weather conditions, the stipulated times that residents are not allowed to water and irrigate their gardens has changed from 6am until 6pm to 8am until 4pm every day.

“We urge residents to remain active partners in reducing the amount of water used in the City of Johannesburg, and to report any form of vandalism and theft of water infrastructure to 0800 00 25 87. Residents are encouraged to subscribe, on our website, to our sms notification service for alerts on planned or unplanned service interruptions,” she added.
