Maragon pupils bake for Randburg SPCA

NORTH RIDING – Over R18 000 was raised for the dogs, cats and staff at Randburg SPCA.

Grade 6 pupils from Maragon Private Schools Ruimsig, baked and sold delicious goodies in aid of the Randburg SPCA.

In the spirit of Mandela month, the children, together with a few siblings, cousins and friends, headed to the Clearwater Mall Piazza for the Nelson Mandela Day Bake Sale.

They wanted to get an early start so that they could be ready for the Saturday rush.

By 7.30am, the Maragon Gazebo had been erected and six tables heaved under the weight of banana bread, cupcakes, fudge, milk tart, muffins and lots of chocolate goodies.

Because of the children’s dedication, the Randburg SPCA has received R18 845 from Maragon’s Grade 6 class of 2016. The money raised will go towards all aspects of their day-to-day running of the SPCA centre, from specialised animal feed, diesel, maintenance and, of course, veterinary care.

The Grade 6s worked tirelessly weeks before the cake sale, and their hard work only ended a few days after the bake sale when all products had been sold.

On 2 August, Randburg SPCA general manager Craig Rudman, handed the pupils certificates of thanks. “I am so blown away by the amount of money raised for our SPCA. These children worked hard and everyone at Randburg SPCA expresses their gratitude towards all who was involved, including the parents.”
