SO FAR: ANC catching up to DA in the City of Johannesburg

JOBURG – The DA's lead appears to be dwindling, as captured votes trickle in.

By 11am today, approximately 47 percent of all Gauteng results had been captured by the Independent Electoral Commission showing close competition between the DA and ANC in the City of Johannesburg after yesterday’s elections.

The results for the City as of 3pm, show the DA in the lead with 42,7 percent and the ANC close behind with 41,38 percent. The EFF, contesting in its first municipal elections, has 9,96 percent of captured votes.

In the greater Randburg area, results so far show: In four of the 11 wards (ward 115, 114, 100, 96) the ANC is leading with more than 50 percent of captured votes. In the seven other wards (ward 117, 134, 104, 102, 101, 99 and 98) the DA is in the lead with captured votes above 70 percent. The EFF in three wards (ward 115, 114 and 100) won more than 20 percent of captured votes.

In the northern suburbs of Roodepoort the captured votes show: In three of the four wards (ward 97, 89 and 85) the DA is in the lead with over 60 percent. Ward 126 has no captured votes yet.

In Northcliff, Melville and surrounding areas the captured votes show: The DA is in the lead in all of the seven wards (ward 86, 87, 88, 89, 99, 117 and 69) with mostly over 70 percent of captured votes won by the party. Ward 69 has just over 50 percent of captured votes won by the DA and over 30 percent by the ANC. The ANC has over 8 percent of captured votes in the rest of the wards. The EFF is coming in with just under 10 percent of captured votes.

These results are not final and not all voting station’s results have been captured in each ward.

The IEC will, in terms of the Electoral Commission Act, declare results within seven days after the elections.
