Two St Stithians College cricketers shine at Cricket South Africa Awards

LYME PARK – Kagiso Rabada and Wiaan Mulder from St Stithians College earn remarkable accolades this year.

Wiaan Mulder is the latest cricket star from St Stithians College to make a name for himself after Kagiso Rabada.

The 18-year-old athlete received high accolades from Cricket South Africa at this year’s breakfast awards ceremony.

Mulder, who currently captains the St Stithians Coca-Cola U19 team, won three big accolades during the breakfast at The Wanderers Club.

He went home with the Coca-Cola U19 Cricketer of the Year, Coca-Cola Schools T20 Cricketer of the Year and Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Cricket Week Player of the Tournament.

“We are very proud of Wiaan’s achievements. Likewise, we are proud of Wiaan, particularly as he managed to achieve at this level in his Matric year. He led our 1st XI to the National T20 Championships, and put in a man-of-the-match performance in the final, to lead his team to victory. Like Kagiso, he has maintained a level of humility and gratitude that is admirable,” said the head of St Stithians Boys’ College, Dave Knowles.

The college’s cricket coach, Wim Jansen, praised both Mulder and Rabada on their phenomenal achievements. “We are super, super excited. It’s amazing and fantastic news and a feather in the caps of everyone at Saints who has had a hand in the careers of these two talented young men.”

He further explained that they were all very excited and looking forward to seeing what the two young men will do in the future.

“It has been another wonderful year for cricket at St Stithians College and we are immensely proud of the way our athletes have played the game,” concluded Jansen.

St Stithians College alumnus, Rabada made history at the CSA awards banquet by winning a record six awards. Rabada is the first cricketer to win six awards at this prestigious awards ceremony.

He won the awards for SA Cricketer of the Year; Castle Lager Cricketer of the Year; Castle Lager ODI Cricketer of the Year; SA Players’ Player of the Year; SA Fans Player of the Year; and T20 Delivery of the Year.

Knowles also praised Rabada and explained that the school was delighted to see Rabada performing impressively for the country.

“We are immensely proud of this young man – not only for his achievements, but also for the young man he has become, and the fact that he keeps in regular contact with his alma mater,” said Knowles.
