The retirement home is situated on eight hectares of land in Jukskei Park, and Summerfield Park Retirement Village is efficiently managed by Methodist Homes, a Section 21 non-profit organisation that has been providing professional, affordable, secure and caring accommodation for the elderly for over 46 years.

There are 14 Methodist Homes Villages, in total 11 are located in Gauteng and the rest in the North-West Province, housing about 2500 residents.

Chief executive officer for Methodist Homes, Kelvin Glen, who is also the director of The South African Care Forum said that they considered the entire team as care partners – from gardeners, security, drivers, cleaners, admin and nursing staff to managers. “Some of our residents stay with us for more than 10 years and strong relationships are forged, we truly are one big family,” he added.

Glen advised that when it comes to life rights and rental units, some of the retirement villages have a waiting list of up to five years and he encouraged residents who are interested in the villages either for themselves or for their parents to come and experience the village, themselves. “Come and have tea with the care team and if you believe this is the village you see yourself retiring in, then just put down your name on the waiting list, to avoid disappointment,” he said. He explained that the list serviced all 14 Methodist Homes Retirement Villages.

He pointed out that despite the waiting list, they currently have 17 mid-care beds for either shared or single rooms and these were available on a full board and lodging monthly tariff basis.
