A woman was left distraught after she was attacked by a man while she was walking in the field on the corner of Sutherland Street and Duiker Avenue.

Francois de Klerk from Gauteng Protection said one if his security officers was in the vicinity in a response vehicle when the woman asked for help. She told him that the suspect tried to take her handbag. He assaulted her and allegedly attempted to rape her.

“Two boys were playing close by and gave a description of the man,” said De Klerk. He added that thanks to some of the security companies that are on a Whatsapp group, he could quickly call for backup. He also requested a dog from the K9 unit. Kilo, a German shepherd helped look for the suspect.

De Klerk said that they released Kilo into the field. He sat down when he found the suspect hiding in the tall grass. Jean van Zyl from EC security and Johnny Loots, owner of BCI security grabbed the suspect. He was arrested by the Honeydew SAPS.

“We would like to urge people to be aware of security vehicles driving around them. If they have their lights on they need to have a right of way. In this way they could get to the scene quickly,” said Corinda.
