Claims that online registration system was stolen

JOBURG – The Department will wait for the court ruling on the matter that it stole the online system concept before taking further action.

Gauteng Department of Education indicated that the court must rule on the claims that it stole the online application concept.

The Department released a statement this week indicating that they will wait for a court ruling on the matter before taking action.

An IT entrepreneur, Melissa Laing, from Huntlia Technology told EyeWitness News that the Department was using her concept without crediting her.

According to reports, she pitched the online concept in 2012 and the Department deemed it ‘stupid’ and that they could not use it.

MEC Panyanza Lesufi launched the online application system in April this year. He came under fire from most parents in the province when the system had undergone a few glitches.

The department confirmed receipt of notice of motion from the Magistrates’ Court last week.

“We have noted with concern the accusation levelled against the Department by Huntlia Technology claiming the department is using their online system concept without crediting them,” the statement read.

It further read that the Department was still considering the matter and would respond accordingly in due course.

“The department is not at liberty to divulge any further information regarding the summons at this point as the matter is sub judice.”
