Woman in racist video says she has a written apology for the court

KENSINGTON B – Defence attorney says Vicki Momberg has a good relationship with people of all races.

Vicki Momberg, the woman who was filmed shouting out racist slurs appeared in Randburg Magistrates’ Court today.

Momberg has been charged with crimen injuria following a video that went viral.

In the video, Momberg can be heard shouting the k***** word many times. Momberg also rudely addressed police officers who were called to assist her after she was allegedly smash-and-grabbed.

In court today, Magistrate Penny Viljoen said that she would allow the media to photograph and film proceedings before and after court sessions, but not while court is in session.

Defence attorney Grove objected to the application brought by the media claiming it was for sensationalist reasons.

Senior State Prosecutor Yusuf Baba said that Momberg made herself a celebrity, not the media.

Racism still a problem!

Outside the court, National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson, Phindi Louw, addressed the media on how the laws of the country must be upheld.

Defence attorney Grove explained that his client (Momberg) has written an apology addressed to the relevant people.

“She [Momberg] was traumatised and she snapped. She has always had a good relationship with people of all races‚” said Grove.

Viljoen postponed the case to 1 August in order for the defence team to have access to the case docket.
