Curro Aurora plans various activities for Mandela Day

SUNDOWNER – Various activities scheduled by Curro Aurora for Mandela Day celebration.

Curro Aurora primary and high schools will be celebrating the legacy of Nelson Mandela on 20 July when pupils return from school holidays.

The preschool will be collecting and packing food parcels, which will be donated to Golang Preschool at the Zandspruit informal settlement, which they have been supporting for the past five years, as well as Thorn Tree Academy in Kya Sands.

The primary school will make sandwiches and sweet packages to donate to the academy. They will also donate books and bookshelves for the Book Corner, which is still to be created at the academy.

The high school will host a Barefoot Day and pupils will donate a pair of shoes, which will be handed over to the Refilwe Community near Cullinan, which they have been involved in for the past year. The school has, for the past number of years, celebrated this day through numerous activities ranging from rallying parents, learners and staff to knit blankets for the destitute, arranging food parcels for various charities, hosting disadvantaged pupils at the school for the day and donating school shoes to charity.

The executive team and administration staff will donate food parcels including toiletries and spend time planting a vegetable garden with the pupils of Westrand School, a school for pupils with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, learning difficulties and pupils with physical disabilities. “Curro Aurora partakes in this day to celebrate and honour our great icon, Nelson Mandela’s life and legacy. It is our hope and our aim to do what we can to change and better someone else’s life, however small it may seem,” said school marketer and personal assistant to the executive head, Matona Sakupwanya.
