ER24 paramedics worked for 20 minutes to remove a man from the wreckage of a car after an accident involving two vehicles this afternoon.
The accident happened on the corner of Dover Street and Pine Avenue in Ferndale at about 1.10pm today (9 July). Both vehicles were blocking the one lane.
Paramedics arrived on scene to find one man lying trapped inside one of the vehicles in a critical condition. The other four patients were found sitting near the accident scene with moderate injuries. One of the patients was a pregnant woman.
Rescue services began to extricate the man from the vehicle, using specialised tools, in a 20-minute operation.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said, “Once freed, paramedics treated all the patients and provided the critically injured man with advanced life support interventions.”
Once treated, the patients were transported to various hospitals including Mediclinic in Sandton.
Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
