Leading change at Randburg Rotary

Bronwyn Ward and Stephanie Rigby were inaugurated as the newest Randburg Rotary Club President and President of the Anns.

After Clive Smedmor’s successful year as Randburg Rotary Club President, Bronwyn Ward, will now take over the duties of leading those who serve above self.

Ward was inducted on 2 July as the 46th president of the club that started the Reach for a Dream Foundation, Refliwe Community Project and completed a list of 19 projects since last year.

“It was the year that was supposed to be about planning, yet we managed to complete these projects. That’s amazing,” Smedmor said while addressing Rotarians and Annes at the Bryanston Sports Club.

He said that the last year has taught him a lot about how Rotarians always help one another and thanked the members for their support throughout his presidency. Smedmor handed over the charter, and the heavy reigns, to Ward who shared her excitement of heading the second year of the club’s three-year plan.

“The first year was all about planning and researching what the people of Randburg really need. The second year will be about deciding and starting to implement the projects that will add to the community. Then the third year, headed by Keletso George, will be about fully implementing these projects,” Ward explained.

Past President Phil Hall said, before toasting to Rotary International, the organisation that contributed more than $1,5 billion toward eradicating polio worldwide, when he thinks of Rotary he thinks of enthusiastic family and friends, young and old, across the world who make up its members.

Ward agreed that one of her goals will be to develop an effective and energetic club where Rotarians embark on meaningful projects that will serve the Randburg community.

“We have summarised the research year’s findings of the issues the Randburg community faces. They are the state of the parks, infrastructure, security and crime and vagrants and the homeless,” she said.

Now, she said, the Randburg Rotary Club will embark on implementing change in these areas.

Past President of the Anns, Betty Agustoni said she was equally proud of what the Anns, women within the Rotary club, accomplished in the last year. Agustoni will also hand over the leadership responsibility to Stephani Rigby, who could not attend the inauguration due to illness.

“We are very proud of the R100 000 that we raised for the Abraham Kriel Children’s Home,” she said.
