Water shut down after pipe burst

BLOUBOSRAND – The unplanned interruption is still affecting certain areas.

Unplanned water interruptions have left residents of Bloubosrand and surrounding areas without water since 3 July with some areas still affected.

Johannesburg Water (JW) spokesperson, Tidimalo Chuene said there was a major pipe burst on the corner of Uitval and Aghulus Streets in the area on the same line that burst the previous week. By the afternoon, the JW team was still isolating the water from the main valve to reduce water losses. Chuene said the time of completion and water restoration remain unconfirmed due to the ‘complexity of the work required’.

This morning it appeared that normal water supply has been restored to most areas that were affected.

“Technicians are, however, still attending to isolated incidents in North Riding, Olivedale and Kya Sand,” she said.

On 14 June JW announced that Bloubosrand, Johannesburg North, North Riding, would face a planned water interruption due a water pressure reducing valve that was installed.

“Residents are reminded that level-2 water restrictions are still in place and must be adhered to. Due to the colder weather conditions, the stipulated times that residents are not allowed to water and irrigate their gardens has changed from 6am until 6pm to 8am until 4pm every day” Chene said.
