UPDATE: Suspended journalist hands over SABC petition

JOBURG - Suspended SABC journalist hands over petition to the acting court manager.

One of the suspended SABC  journalist, Thandeka Gqubele, has handed over a petition with 5 000 signatures at the Constitution Hill.

The acting court manager received the petition and said he would accept the memorandum and pass it on to the judges.

In her speech before the petition was handed over, Gqubele said, “It stipulates all our requests to the court and that which we find to be of concern with our public broadcaster. Our mandate as a public broadcaster is derived from 161A of the Constitution and from the broadcasting act and the violations of these are deeply undemocratic and of most concern to us. We have come with our colleagues, some of them suspended, some of the warned, some of them verified and victimized to pray on the court. Well it is our last resort, we don’t know what else to do.”
