Elections: Latest poll puts DA ahead in CoJ

JOBURG – The Democratic Alliance has seen an increase in percentage of respondents who would vote for the party.

Four weeks till the local government elections show the DA overtaking the ANC with one percentage point in the City of Johannesburg(CoJ).

Last week the African National Congress (ANC) were in favour of two percentage points more of respondents in CoJ than the DA.

But the latest eNCA poll, conducted by Ipsos, shows 32 per cent of voters would rather choose the DA and 31 per cent would vote for the ANC.

The DA now is the front-runner in Tshwane, Nelson Mandela Bay and now CoJ according to the poll. It has moved ahead of the African National Congress (ANC) in the Tshwane, Johannesburg and Nelson Mandela Bay metros.

Professor Daryl Glaser, head of Department of Political Studies at the University of the Witwatersrand said he believes the ANC will see a further weakening of its position in Joburg but it’ll probably hold onto overall control by a narrow margin.

On the accuracy of the Ipsos polls, Glaser said even though Ipsos is a respected organisation with a decent record in recent elections, no polling organisation can ever offer guaranteed accuracy.

The next eNCA Ipsos poll will be released soon.
