Motorbike man robs children at gunpoint

RANDPARK RIDGE – Children receive counselling from Honeydew CPF Trauma unit after they were robbed at gunpoint.

Honeydew police appealed to pupils to be vigilant while walking home either from school or shopping centres.

This follows an armed robbery incident which occurred on 18 June in Randpark Ridge when a man on a motorbike allegedly robbed two young children at gunpoint.

“The suspect allegedly took the boys’ bags and their cell phones,” said Honeydew police spokesperson Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs.

Police warned that children should always ensure that they are aware of their surroundings and refrain from talking to strangers even if they are not exposed to incidents of this nature in the area.

The two children were walking in Karee Street when the incident occurred. “They were approached by a man on a motorbike. He then asked for directions and the pupils tried to assist him by searching on their cell phones,” she explained.

She said the suspect then pointed a firearm at the children and robbed them. “Honeydew Community Policing Forum (CPF) Trauma unit is currently counselling the victims,” she concluded.
