Grade R teachers scoop provincial awards

BLAIRGOWRIE - Three teachers from Blairgowrie Primary School have taken top honors at the GDE awards.

Three teachers from Blairgowrie Primary School have been awarded for their tireless efforts in education.

Principal of the school Pat Oosthuizen explained that the teachers were nominated to enter by the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) where they had to make a written submission answering questions as to why they should win.

“The teachers entered the National Teachers Awards in the category of Excellence in Grade R Teaching and won the first round in District D10 and then progressed to the Provincial Level where they were awarded third prize at a glittering GDE Awards Ceremony on 4 June,” she said. She further explained that the recipients of the awards were Denise Stoltz, Tecara Coetzer and Nicola Ellmore.

“The first round of the awards was held in Alexandra where the teachers were hosted at a gala dinner and the final leg of the awards was held in Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg,” she noted.

Ooshuizen elaborated that even though the teachers had won the first round they had no idea if they would win in the main event but was pleased when the teachers from Blairgowrie Primary School took the third place overall.

Oosthuizen pointed out that the trio who won the third prize showed that hard work and dedication paid off and that they were shining examples to their colleagues. “These awards are important for our school because it shows that we have competent and dedicated teachers teaching the pupils,” she added.

Denise Stoltz said they were proud to have represented their school at the provincial awards and that they were all passionate about education. “Our passion for education came through in our interviews we did with the judging panel and that I am sure that is what got us the third place.” she said.
