Urban inspectors team up with Linden Police

LINDEN – The City of Johannesburg and Linden Police attend to residents' complaints.

The Linden Police and the City of Joburg attended to numerous complaints from Linden and Blairgowrie residents, tackling them one by one.

They conducted their monthly joint operation in these areas on 10 June.

One of the complaints was in Conrad Drive, Blairgowrie, where residents were complaining about a man who was believed to be operating as a mechanic from his garage. Ward 99 urban inspector Auriel Kobola said that this can cause problems such as rats and noise pollution. He added that Blairgowrie is a residential area and the man will need to meet with the town planner and register for the house to be a place of business.

The man was fined twice for the same incident and even appeared in court where the case was thrown out because an official from the City was not present. During the operation, he promised officials that he will stop with running his illegal shop.

Other problems that were tackled were several illegal electricity connections in Blairgowrie at a hijacked building where the City has since disconnected the electricity and removed cables. An illegal car wash was also inspected at Susman Avenue, the business owners were advised to get a legal business licence.

The last complaint involved a resident in Linden who other residents claimed he was starving his dogs. The City contacted the SPCA who will follow up with the matter.

Kobola said that they will keep conducting the operations to ensure that the City is kept clean.
