Taxi collision leaves three dead and five critically injured

RANDBURG – A taxi collision has claimed the lives of three people.

Three people have been killed and at least five people are in a critical condition after two taxi’s collided on the R114 near the Heronbridge College.

The fatal accident happened at 7.30am on 11 June. Netcare911, ER24 and other emergency service providers were on the scene.

Netcare 911 media liaison officer, Athlenda Mathe said that reports from the scene indicated that there were several people that had been injured. When paramedics arrived on scene they found that several people had been ejected from both taxi’s on impact.

“The Netcare2 helicopter was dispatched to the scene to airlift one of the critically injured patients to a trauma one facility in Johannesburg for further medical care,” said Mathe.

ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring said three men had died from multiple fatal injuries on the scene. “Unfortunately nothing could be done for these patients and they were declared dead on the scene,” said Meiring.

He also said that at least five other patients were found on scene in a critical condition. Paramedics treated the patients and provided them with advanced life support interventions.

“Two critical patients were later airlifted by private medical helicopters to nearby hospitals for urgent treatment,” said Meiring.

In conclusion Meiring said that 15 other patients were found on scene with injuries ranging from minor to moderate. Paramedics treated the patients and transported them to various hospitals in the area for further treatment.
