First domestic watch meeting is held in Bordeaux

BORDEAUX – BNCF is planning to start a domestic watch group.

Domestic workers and gardeners in Bordeaux North were given emergency numbers and advised to keep those numbers with them at all times.

They are expected to use those numbers when a sudden emergency incident occurs in their suburbs.

Randburg Police and Bordeaux North Community Forum (BNCF) held the first domestic watch meeting which was attended by more than 24 workers.

The meeting was held at the Redeemed Christian Church of God on the corner of Hilltop Street and Main Avenue in Bordeaux on 8 June.

Domestic workers were encouraged to know each other. Sector 1 manager, Constable Vincent Hlungwane, said crime incidents were likely to decrease when residents and employees know one another.

He explained that this first meeting was focussed especially on introduction. “We are encouraging residents to allow their employees to attend the next meeting as we will be tackling challenges in the suburb,” he said.

Police also delivered a general talk on drugs, human trafficking and to avoid being a victim of cash robberies and personal safety tips.

The next meeting is scheduled for 6 July at 12pm at the same church and domestic workers were encouraged to attend.

“I strongly urge you to send your helpers and gardeners and ask your neighbours to do so as well,” said BNCF security portfolio chairperson Nathan Pillay.

BNCF is also planning to start a domestic watch group to keep domestic workers on high alert about crime and advice of wrongdoing in the area.

Contact details for the sector vehicles are 071 675 7115/6.
