Benefactor reaches out to Darrenwood senior citizens

DARRENWOOD – A community leader helps out senior citizens.

Steve’s Spar Blackheath has lent a helping hand to the residents of Darrenwood Retirement Village.

A long-standing community man, Steve Savvides, owner of Steve’s Spar Blackheath, cares about the community. “We are a family here and without support from the community, we would not have been in business for 38 years,” added Savvides.

In an attempt to help the community, Steve’s Spar Blackheath offers large discounts to the residents at Darrenwood Retirement Village and often the residents can be seen enjoying a cup of hot coffee at the cafe.

Darrenwood Retirement Village has between 184 to 220 people living there at a time. The village takes care of their residents by supporting them with frail care, high care as well as a loving community feel.

In the spirit of family and community, Steve’s Spar donated R3 000 to the village. “The donation will really come in handy, we have a couple of things we would like to fix up,” said Darrenwood Retirement Village estate manager, Graham Cox.

Cox added, “The folks at the village have been frequenting Steve’s Spar for about 30 years and it feels like home.”

Chairman of the Darrenwood Retirement Village community fund, Christine Doyle said, “A massive thank you to Spar. We are really grateful for all they do for us.”

Doyle explained how the donations will be used to perhaps repair the dining room awning and general maintenance around the village.
