City revamps Ward 101

SONNEGLANS – JMPD enforces bylaws on city streets and pavements.

The suburbs, streets and greenbelts of Ward 101 received much-needed attention during an integrated community programme.

City officials such JMPD, City Parks and Zoo, Johannesburg Water, Pikitup and City Power came together in their numbers on 25 May, to target problem areas within the ward. JMPD officers enforced bylaws such as illegal squatting and the selling of items on river banks.

City Parks and Zoo took to work on the overgrown grass and forestry on President Fouché Drive and Witdoring Road in Sonneglans.

The confiscated items will be stored at the JMPD impound lot in Roodepoort.

JMPD Superintendent Wandile Mrubata explained that the confiscated materials such as the wooden handiwork found on the side of the road, are taken to the JMPD pound in Roodepoort. “The owners of the items can collect their materials or items and will be charged a release fee or fine.”

He further added that integrated community programmes such as this one happens about three times a year and they move from ward to ward.

Ward 101 Councillor Ralf Bittkau said, “Although I am extremely pleased that work was done in my ward, I am disturbed that I was not informed by anyone at the City that such a programme will take place.”

Councillor Bittkau further explained that if he was informed of the happenings, that as the councillor for the ward, he would have been able to point out areas of priority.
