8-hour water cut for Bloubosrand

BLOUBOSRAND - Residents are warned to prepare for an 8 hour water interruption.

Residents of Bloubosrand are warned of an eight-hour water cut that will take place on 26 May from 8am to 4pm.

Joburg Water spokesperson Eleanor Mavimbela said in a media statement that they were implementing the water cut to conduct maintenance in the area. The entity will also install a pressure release valve (PRV) and tie in the main water pipes.

She pointed out that the streets that would be affected would be: Agulhas Road, Rooikrans Road, Rooipeper Street, Centaurus Road, Haarlem Street, Voorschoten Street, Schiedam Avenue and Drommedaris Avenue.

“During this time water tanks will be available for residents throughout the day. The water tanks will be stationed at corner Rooipeper Street and Drommedaris Avenue,” she said.

She pointed out that they expected all work to be completed between 4pm and 6pm.

Mavimbela reminded residents that level 2 water restrictions were still in place and must be adhered to at all times.

“Due to the colder weather conditions, the stipulated times that residents are not allowed to water and irrigate their gardens has changed from 6am and 6pm to 8am until 4pm every day,” she noted. She added that level-2 water restrictions according to section 44 (3) of the Water Services Bylaw stated that all consumers are forthwith compelled:

• Not to water and irrigate their gardens from 8am and 4pm every day,

• Not to fill their swimming pools with municipal water,

• Not to use hosepipes to wash their cars, paved areas, etc.

“We urge residents to remain active partners in reducing the amount of water used in the City of Johannesburg, and to report any form of vandalism and theft of water infrastructure to 0800 00 25 87,” she said.
