Criminals target cyclists

KENSINGTON B – Police are appealing to residents to be more vigilant when cycling in William Nicol Drive.

Criminals have over the past few months targeted cyclists and robbed them of their valuables.

William Nicol Drive and Braamfontein Spruit behind the Old Parktonian Sports Club in Bordeaux are the main hotspots of these activities.

Although police could not reveal the number of incidents, they have, however, warned residents to be more vigilant.

Randburg police spokesperson Constable Stanley Bopape confirmed that few incidents were reported in the precinct.

He said suspects often take bicycles from their victims. “Cyclists are advised to cycle in groups. They should alert police and private security companies immediately when they see a suspicious person,” he said.
