When will you ever fix it JRA?

FERNDALE – The project to repair the sidewalks of Surrey Avenue have come to a sudden halt again.

The project to repair the sidewalks of Surrey Avenue in Ferndale has been delayed, yet again. Fed-op residents are now complaining about the project delays.

Dirk Botha, a resident who was direly affected by the collapse of sidewalks close to his office on Surrey Avenue, complained that nothing had been done for the past two months.

“I have tried to report it to the City but nobody is coming back to me. The road is in a terrible state as it is a complete mess,” he said.

After residents complained to Joburg Road Agency (JRA) for more than two years this project started towards the end of last year. This happened after the portion of the road close to Nu-Hold Group’s office started to erode in February

When JRA started the project, residents were assured that it will be completed by the end of February. It was then delayed and scheduled to be completed by mid- April this year but to date, it has not yet been completed.

The problem has since escalated to Bond Street and uprooted the tarred road.

JRA spokesperson Bertha Peters-Scheepers said the City had a problem with the contractor but it has since been addressed. “We have extended the project schedule until this Friday,” she said.

She also apologised for the inconvenience residents suffered and assured them the problem would be resolved.
