Residents embark on 5km walk

BRYANSTON – Residents walk together in an effort to enjoy the park, bird sanctuary and arboretum while simultaneously reinforcing community relationship.

Members of Bryanfern Resident’s Association (BFRA) enjoyed a 5km walk around their suburbs on 7 May.

The walk was meant to allow residents to enjoy the park and spot the bird life while identifying potential vagrant activities.

Bronweyn Craig from BFRA said they wanted to make the walk a monthly activity and they would add it to their calendar. She advised residents to check notices on the Facebook Page or to email them on bryanfernra@gmail.com.

BFRA consists of residents from Bryanston Ext 3, Vandia Grove, Beverly Gardens and parts of Ferndale.

“We found that the bridge cracked and was crumbling between Cork and Fleet streets and we reported it to Ward 104 Councillor Mike Wood,” she said.

She explained that the weather was favourable with friendly residents offering to help with a future river clean-up. “We did encounter some recycling piles which needed to be removed,” she said.

The walk started at Randburg Scout Hall on the corner of Eaton Road and Oxford Drive. They then walked along the river area, the bird sanctuary and an arboretum.

Residents were accompanied by guards from CSS Tactical. The BFRA have also put forward a proposal to fence the bird sanctuary and arboretum. This would be done to ensure that these places are kept original and the bird life is protected while preventing vagrants from moving in.

“We now, however, would like to give the opportunity to the residents to enjoy our river area while minimising the impact to the environment,” she concluded.
