Road closures on Mother’s Day

MALASHOF – Over 4 000 runners are expected to take part in the Adrienne Hersch Challenge this Mother's Day.

The Adrienne Hersche Challenge will take place this Mother’s Day, and residents are warned that there will be road closures around the Randburg Sports Complex. There are over 4 000 runners expected to participate in the race that is organised by the Randburg Harriers running Club on 8 May. There will be 21km, 10km and 5km runs, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to fight breast cancer.

Race director Corne van Zyl warned residents that traffic around Malanshof will be affected and pointed out that Republic Road from Silver Pine Avenue to Malibongwe Drive will be closed to traffic in both directions from about 6.45am to 7.30am.

“The route will be extensively policed by both JMPD and our own club marshals who will make every effort to maintain a smooth traffic flow with minimal delays on the affected route. We thank you in advance for your patience if you are unfortunately inconvenienced by any traffic delays,” Van Zyl said.

Van Zyl pointed out that all affected streets would be cleaned by 8am the next day to ensure that the event caused minimum disruption. “The cost of entry ranges from R40 for the 5km fun run to R140 for the 21km run, anyone who wants to participate in any of the races should enter via our website, www.entrytime.com,” he said.

Van Zyl pointed out that the races would start at the Randburg Sports Complex on the corner of Silver Pine Avenue and Republic Road. He added that the 21km and 10km races would start promptly at 7am but that the fun run would take place at 7.30 am.
