The pupils of Casa Do Sol School celebrated Freedom Day with a special assembly where the national anthem was sung and the flag was raised.
The school’s headmistress, Elmarie Lahoud, addressed the pupils on April 26 and reminded them of the importance of Freedom Day for South Africa. The South African flag was hoisted by the departmental head of the junior school, Lindi van Vuuren, as the pupils sang.
The special assembly is an annual event as Casa Do Sol acknowledges all South African holidays and wants to reinforce the general knowledge of the country’s past to their pupils and teach them the principle of hoisting the flag and being proud of one’s country.
“We want our pupils to remember that even though we are from different racial groups, we are one nation,” said Van Vuuren.
