Armed robbery: suspect behind bars

KENSINGTON B – A man who allegedly stabbed and robbed his victim last December was sentenced to 13 years in prison.

One of four suspects who stabbed and assaulted his victim during a robbery incident last December will spend 13 years in custody.

Sello Mosoeu robbed his victim of R4 000, a Rolex watch, a wallet and pair of sneakers on the corner of Bram Fischer Drive and Dover Street in Ferndale.

The suspect was subsequently arrested when his victim recognised him in the Randburg CBD and immediately informed the police.

Detective Constable Freddy Masia responded swiftly and the suspect was arrested. According to the police, the suspect did not want to reveal his three accomplices who were involved in this incident.

The suspect was sentenced to prison on 22 April at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court following a comprehensive investigation by Const Masia.

The victim was severely assaulted and stabbed with a knife during this robbery. Randburg Police spokesperson Constable Stanley Bopape said the other three suspects were still at large.

“We commend Const Masia for his excellent job, which helped bring the suspect to book,” he said.

He further explained that all reported criminal incidents in Randburg Police precinct were treated equally regardless of how big or small. “We leave no stone unturned. We will continue to investigate all incidents thoroughly and ensure that harsh sentences prevail,” he said.

He encouraged residents in their police precinct to report all incidents of crime irrespective of how small they may seem.
