Bryanston dominates Derby Day

The atmosphere around Hyde Park High School was charged with excitement as Bryanston High School visited its rivals in a hotly-contested Derby Day.

The school chants and team spirit continued through all the rugby and netball matches, which saw Bryanston dominate the playing field amid roaring war cries from both schools. The U15 rugby match was a very one-sided game as Byranston won 42–0. The 1st team and 2nd team rugby matches were no exception and saw Bryanston take the win 17–0 and 27–6 respectively.

“The Bryanston High School rugby teams played well and this showed in the final score lines. The 1st team game was dampened by an extreme downpour of rain which not only impacted on visibility but caused the teams to struggle to find their formations. However, the boys enjoyed playing in the rain, the change in environment tested other aspects of their game skills,” said Quintus van der Merwe, head of rugby at Bryanston High School.

Bryanston’s netball teams won six out of the eight matches. The 1st team match was highly contested but Bryanston emerged the winners with 25–19.

“We are very proud of our girls and their performance, to walk away with six wins and only two losses is a testament to all of the hard work and training that has gone into pre-season training and coaching. We look forward to seeing our netball girls continue with the standard as the season continues,” said Nadia Karczmarczyk, head of netball at Bryanston High School.

The Bryanston High School hockey, netball and rugby teams are set to compete in Derby Days against Rand Park High School on 9 April and then against Fourways High School on 16 April at Bryanston High School.
