The Council of City of Joburg is urging residents to attend meetings in their area after approving the 2016 – 2021 draft Integrated Development Plan (IDP) for public consultation.
Nkosinathi Nkabinde, communication specialist with the City of Joburg said that in the coming weeks, Joburg residents will be given an opportunity to shape the immediate future of the City through their participation in the IDP process.
“The plan outlines how the City will spend about R28 billion over the next three financial years in a bid to enhance the quality of life for Joburg residents,” Nkabinde said.
He added that Executive Mayor, Councillor Parks Tau urged residents to actively participate in the development of the draft 2016–2021 IDP.
“All communication platforms, which include community meetings, social media, hand-delivered letters, emails and telephone calls, can be utilised to give one’s input into the development and advancement of our City,” he added.
Nkabinde explained that the draft 2016–2021 IDP is a people’s plan and should be owned by the residents whose lives will be affected by it. “For the City, the 2016–2021 IDP is about delivering on the promised future by putting people at the centre of development and working in collaboration,” he further explained.
The draft IDP is anchored on the implementation of the National Development Plan 2030, the Gauteng Transformation, modernisation and reindustrialisation programme, as well as the four key outcomes of the Johannesburg Growth and Development Strategy 2040 (GDS 2040), which are:
- Improved quality of life and development-driven resilience for all
- A sustainable city that protects its resources for future generations and a city that is sustainable and offers a healthy, clean and safe environment
- An inclusive, job-intensive, resilient and competitive economy that harnesses the potential of residents
- A high-performing metropolitan government that proactively contributes to, and builds a sustainable, socially inclusive, locally integrated and globally competitive Gauteng City Region (GCR)
Furthermore, he noted that the draft 2016–2021 IDP will focus on key priority projects and refines several City strategic priorities.

- Marks Park Judith Road Emmarentia: 13 April 6pm – 8pm
- Cosmo City Multi-Purpose Centre, Angola Drive, Cosmo City: 12 April 5pm – 8pm
- Ruimsig Athletic Stadium Roodepoort: 14 April 5pm – 8pm
- Braamfontein Recreation Centre, Harrison Street Braamfontein: 18 April 4pm – 7pm
