Community outreach in Ferndale Village

FERNDALE – Councillor Mike Wood encouraged residents to form and participate in resident's associations, street committees and community policing forums.

Ward 104 Councillor Mike Wood endeavours to reach out to residents in his ward on a regular basis.

This is an effort to interact with residents about issues of service delivery in the ward.

On 19 March Councillor Wood together with the members of his organisation spent the whole of the morning in Ferndale Village shopping centre handing pamphlets to residents.

The community initiative assists residents to easily know their councillor and report the problems in the ward.

“Today a resident complained about streetlights that were not working on her street. We escalated the matter to City Power and the problem was resolved,” he said.

He promised that he would continue to conduct these regular programmes until the end of May in various shopping centres in the ward.

Wood was officially nominated by his party to run for a second term as the ward councillor.

“The first five years have been a challenge but I look forward to working with residents to better this ward,” he continued.

He also appealed to residents to work together and strive to resolve problems in the ward. He explained that resident’s associations, street committees and community policing forums made a positive contribution in the ward.

“You can tell easily tell the differences in areas where there are CPFs, RAs and street committees as residents work together to tackle issues in their areas,” he concluded.
